My Favorite Bah Kut Teh in Singapore
Double Happy at Zion Rd Food Court
As a superfan of Bah Kut Teh and having tried many versions in Singapore, I would have to say my favorite is still Double Happy at Zion Road Food Centre. Double Happy opens only in the morning and it has been one of my favorite places for Sunday brunch.
The style is Teochew and amongst all the Bah Kut Teh I tried, Double Happy’s soup is the lightest among them all, with just a tinge of porkiness. And the meat has the right balance of fat and proteins. It is just rightly cooked and not dry like some of the Bah Kut Teh chain stores. This lightness in execution transfers well to the kidneys too – giving the softest kidneys with just the right bite. Al dente kidneys were so mama mia!
The side dishes you can order with your bah kut teh are great too. A huge variety of Teochew style steamed fish – from silver mullet to yellow croaker. My favorite is the white-spotted rabbitfish, especially if they are pregnant with delicious roe in them. Their steam squid is soft and delicious more so if they are pregnant. I am salivating just writing about them – slurp slurp slurp!
Complement you bah kut teh, fish and squid with the green mustard in soup and you get yourself a healthy and delicious breakfast. Super Double Happy!
